GOVERNOR’S MONTHLY LETTER AUGUST 2026 Compassion in Action: HEARTLine Project By: TLP Kat Dela Cruz Imagine Anna, a 17‑year‑old student who was once active in her parish youth group and loved dancing. Over the past few weeks, her friends noticed she stopped attending rehearsals and avoided social gatherings. Anna spends most of her time alone in her room, ignoring calls and messages. In one conversation, she quietly mentioned, “Baka wala nang saysay ang mabuhay.” Her parents thought it was just “teen moodiness,” but the persistence of these changes signaled something deeper. With guidance from a school counselor, Anna was referred to a mental health professional who confirmed symptoms of depression. Early intervention helped her begin therapy, and her family learned how to support her recovery. This story reflects why early intervention matters, and why the HEARTLine Project (Helping Everyone Act with Resilience and Trust) was created. On 26 July 2026, the Rotary Club of Constitution Hill – Bagong Sandigan, led by Legacy President Kat Dela Cruz, partnered with the Rotary Club of Alabang Madrigal Business Park under President Andrew Baccay, and the Christ the King Parish PSALMS Ministry headed by Ms. Analie Almanzor, to hold this Mental Health First Responders Training. The program facilitated by Dhon Reyes of 316 Dynamics equipped participants with practical tools to respond to emotional distress through empathy, active listening, and responsible intervention. It gathered 16 PSALMS Lead Scholars, 12 Parent Coordinators and educators, and 11 Rotarians from both clubs – each now empowered to serve as a first responder for youth mental wellness. “Through HEARTLine, we are creating a culture where mental health is talked about, stigma is reduced, and support is accessible,” shared President Kat Dela Cruz. The ripple effect of HEARTLine extends beyond the workshop – into classrooms, homes, and parish circles – where compassion replaces silence and awareness sparks healing. The Rotary Club of Constitution Hill – Bagong Sandigan expresses heartfelt gratitude to all partners, speakers, scholars, parents, and teachers who can help create an accepting environment for the likes of 17-year old Anna. “HEARTLine: Because every life matters.” Rotary Club of Constitution Hill – Bagong Sandigan
